My grandmother owned the set of salt and pepper shakers that are the impetus to the project, ceramic figurines, round birds of an indeterminate avian variety and immense sentimental value. As objects, they are neither rare nor valuable, and I was able to collect over a dozen sets using eBay. I sent a set of the birds to each of my female cousins, asking for a photograph of the objects in their home in return.
